Roof bars or roof rails?

Hello everybody,

I pick up my first ever Surf on Wednesday so it might be a bit hasty of me to start shopping already, but I wanna get stuck in.
It's a 1992 2.4 without sunroof.

I'm after your opinions on whether to edge towards bolt on roof bars across the roof, or rails along the roof (with bars to clamp over).

It'd be good to hear what experienced owners have tried and tested.

Do Surfs have easy fixing points for bolt on bars?
