So what would you have the do, Andy, given that no-one won the election?
How about the party that got the biggest share of the vote? Too simple?
The minor parties (Lib Dem count as one it seems, despite all their bluster) need to either align themselves with a major one or keep their nose out. As has been said before, a vote for a minor parties is nothing but a wasted vote which is likely to result in situations like we have now.
It seems there's a lot to be said for an elected dictatorship! At least we wouldn't have the ar5e licking prostitution we have now.
If we can have a referendum on PR, why can't we just have a referendum on who the country wants to lead us?
It need not be complex, we already know who our MPs are (we just elected them) so all we need is a ballot paper with The three main parties on it.
Whoever gets the most votes governs!!
Just my pennies worth. In Ireland they have PR. Don't like it at all. It's like MP's getting in by the 'back door'.
1st past the post seems fair to me. Like the best man/woman for the job. The system I like the most, which wouldn't have a hope of getting in here, is the American system. You know who you are voting for. It seems their system works better than what works here.
It has been said that Guy Fawkes was the only man with a decent idea in the house
But the trouble with the American system is how the same money backs both sides - big corporations, etc.
Admittedly that's not much different to here (Ashcroft, Trade Unions or the dodgy bloke who stole a few million quid to give to the Lib Dems!) but I'd be reluctant to change a system in case we end up with something worse!

Well,... and this is speculation mind, mr brown is was disaster politicaly; now the libs would be tarred with that proping up a looser brush if they supported him, the labour party ofcourse realise that and get him to stand down.
So to PR, I first heard about it age 13, John Cleese explained it, and I can understand it still look at the disparity in the numbers.
Torys = 36% 306 seats
Labour = 29% 258 seats
Libs = 23% 57 seats???????????????????? wtf
How is that right? I mean 6% less votes than labour and then 201 less seats? sorry but that's just bollox.
I'm not a Lib supporter, but even so that's just bollox lets have a reform and then another vote, surely that would be more fair?
If a parliment is supposed to represent us, how the hell can the encumbant system do that? Seeing as it works like this?
If Clegg gets anything less then full electoral reform, he will, in the eyes of the average man look like the biggest political prostitute in history.
Have you noticed they've already stopped calling it electoral reform now.... and started calling it political reform
I have a sneaky suspicion that, that is why Labour are gonna been keen to vote in a new leader.
If a coalition government cant be formed, then another General Election with a different PM candidate, might just do the trick.
If they do get a labour/lib dem deal done I can see it doing enormous harm to both parties, as well as the country.

in our current media driven times, the vast majority of people direct their love or loathing at the head of the party in power. He/she after all, becomes the prime minister. Their position, persona and personal standing is fundamental to a party being elected. Some bloke, who wasnt elected as the leader of a partry, but becomes one by default...go figure. The electorate feels cheated. And pr...how many snp mp's and how many labour...and who's the boss ?
They can feel as cheated as they like, but neither your opinion or mine make facts. When you vote, all you are voting for is your MP, in the hope that enough other people vote for an MP of the same hue and your mob "get in" You may "like" the leader and want him as PM but you have to accept the fact, that under our current system his party can dump him anytime.
I think its all hideous and an insult to the British people. I cant believe that two (or more, if Labour are to seize power) parties who DID NOT win an election can possibly end up running a country! It's just insane, and if we get PR (as Lib Dems want) we will have this ###### mess every time they need to make an important decision.
Unbelievable!
And the alternative? A government with insufficient majority to govern. To keep the wheels rolling somebody who did not win is essential
Brown, as far as I'm concerned is a ###### disgrace (always has been IMO) for dragging this out which is either a) he is totally deluded b) desperate to hang on to power at any cost. Thankfully the rest of his party have seen fit to stab him in the back for the sake of a last ditch grasp at power. They make me sick.
Brown is in my opinion no worse than any of them, I beleive that history may look kindly on him
