Today I thought I would give my Alloys on my Freelander a clean (it’s for sale – hence clean the alloys) I had never given them a proper clean and had only cleaned them with soapy water so they were quite stained but I remembered a old trick when I used to work as a Chef. We used oven cleaner on everything that was greasy or marked or just needed a good clean – mostly stainless steel but it worked a treat.
So off to Tesco: Mr Muscle -£1.97
Local garage: Set of 3 brushes (steel/brass/plastic) - £2.45
Pair of latex cloves (any work gloves will do): £1’ish (free if you can nick the wife’s marigolds - Mr Muscle is nasty stuff)
Spray it on being carefully not getting any on the paintwork, leave for 5 mins, a wee scrub with the brass brush and rinse with plenty of clean water, dry with a cloth. Good as new.
Total cost - £5.42 Cost of wheel cleaner at garage – £7.99!!!
And you can always clean the oven as well ready for the Christmas turkey and keep in the wife’s good books for nicking her marigolds.
Anyway it’s worth a try but I can’t be held responsible if it makes a mess of your wheels – it worked for me. You can always do a spot check on the spare or hidden part of the wheel.
