Hi Rob, very cool build. You've inspired me to buy a 1kz and r151 and give it a go in my ln61.
I've got a few questions about to engine mounts. How far back did you have to relocate them to get the 1kz to fit? I. Also see the shifter is very close to the front of the trans tunnel. Does it foul anything being that Close?
Thanks,
Joe.

54) INTERCOOLER
After lots, and lots, and lots of searching (and begging someone to sell me one), I managed to source an intercooler which came off a Prado with a 1KZ/TE engine (same as 2nd/3rd gen surf and what I've got). It came complete with the modded rocker cover to allow room for the intercooler etc.
I took the truck down to Tony who fitted it.
The hood scoop and "boot" (the bit underneath the hood scoop which wraps around the intercooler) is from a Nissan dual cab 4x4 thing that tony was scrapping.
The intercooler should add about 10bhp if you cross reference the factory 1kzte non intercooled versus the factory intercooled 1kzte

53) BUMPERS
This bank holiday weekend I went off down south to see Maciej ("Jay") who also has one of the very few 1st gens in the UK.
He makes custom made bumpers for many surf owners, so he gave my truck the Jay treatment.
You can find him here - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1133183651

52) SOFTTOP
It'd be rude not to put a soft top on this thing! After all that's what makes the 1st gen unique to the later ones (2nd, 3rd gen and so on); the fact it has a removable roof!
I purchased a soft top from https://www.softopper.com/
They were very helpful, and delivery to the UK was very quick using FedEx.
I did have to pay import duty (pretty much unavoidable) but seeing as there's nothing like this being sold in the UK I can't complain.

Excellent project Rob! I really enjoyed reading this. You've made me want to spend some money on my faithful 3rd gen now.

Looks great Rob. Be good to see it done once Tony and Jay have worked their magic

I reckon you'll have quite a few people asking for details about the steering spacer!
Might be an idea to get Tony to post the specification of what he made for you.....unless he has made surplus to sell for those interested.

She's looking sexy as hell, Rob. Well, done. Let me know when you're approaching MOT and a first trip out.

51) TEST RUN TO SIBBERTOFT YEARLY HILUX SURF MEET UP
I was away on holiday with the Mrs during this years yearly meet up at Sibber (Avalanche Adventure - https://avalancheadventure.co.uk/), however Tony kindly took the truck up with him to test what does and doesn’t work.
Pictured is pics from the truck at Sibber.
Still lots to do:-
- Get brakes properly working
- Get all dials on dash working
- MOT
- Tidying up and finishing off
- etc
Then once I get it from Tony I’ll be taking it to Maciej in Poole to have the bumpers and rock sliders I’m having custom made fitted + winch
Right, I'm all caught up with the write up!! That's almost 1.5 years worth of build written up in half a day.
I will add more once Tony gives me his next update, but as we speak I suspect he is still on his way back from Sibber
