Not only what, you need to know 'how' as well.

I think I have a Gearbox manual somewhere. I'll go look.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

      cheers mate

read that you loosen a bolt turn something a full turn tighten back up and test and re-do as needed

obviously need to know what I'm loosening and what I'm turning a full turn apparently there's on on each side of the box

not sure if this is my problem but worth a try

      cheers mate

Generally - The pinch nut gets slackened off, the adjuster is torqued up to whatever the spec. is, then the adjuster is backed off by a bit (again, this will be specified) and the pinch nut re-tightened. A bit like adjusting drum brakes, but more precise.

I doubt anyone other than a 'specialist' would touch it. I'm trying to find some pics and adjustment details. If I find them, I'll stick them on here.

              ta mate

don't have a torque wrench so may not be able to do myself but f there's a possibility that I will fix my gear issues will give it a go

the more i read the more i think this may be my problem when we are at it mate don't suppose you know if there's a vac pipe that connects to box and hows it routed and also the location of any earth straps from the box

              cheers

Other than the initial settings (set using feelers when the box is being built) I can't find any information on 'on the fly' adjustments for the bands on our gearboxes. The Ones that are torqued and turned back are BW ones.

                Sorry.

There are no vacuum pipes. I'll check to see if there are any dedicated earth straps.

I don't see any dedicated gearbox earths, it must just earth through the engine and/or at each connection.

I've pulled a surf auto 'box apart and there is nothing to adjust. The clutch band settings are set and locked.
The electrical connections that are part of the loom are speed sensor, solenoids, ATF temp and gear position sensor.

If you can get all gears normally and manually but no overdrive then it's either the ECT ECU or the O/D switch thats at fault.

I have a couple of ECT ECUs here if you want to try them.

Just went out to check on an old box and Vince has posted what I was going to say.

If its not the solonoids or ECU then there's not much else to do with it apart from get another one.

thanks guys much appreciated its has to be something stupid

have to manually go from 1st to 3rd when pulling away but every morning i go up a short steep hill and power up after which gears are usually ok its not the slope as theres another hil of equal steepness but i cant power up this one

does this help trigger any thoughts

                        cheers again
p.s new ecu already in a while ago no difference does no oil pressure sender have any bearing

Have you gone back to the basics? Make sure all connections are secure and clean, check all the wiring from the g/box through to ECU, Double check correct oil and level in the g/box in the manner described on here somewhere, It could be a broken wire or dodgy connection somewhere. I just thought i'd mention the obvious as it sometimes gets overlooked.

I'm an I.T engineer so very methodical and i know its something stupid

has a simialr issue on an old truck turned out to be earth strap on back of head but cant see one any one if there is one and where it is

Yes there is an earth on the head but its a pita to get at with the EGR circuit in place but, from memory as you look in the engine bay from the front the earth is just to left of the head centre and is just above where the bell housing meets the engine block. (it's from memory so if i'm wrong i would expect someone will put me right)
