  • Cheap Snorkels On Ebay

After much searching on the forum I finally found out what kind of Safari Snorkel I needed for my Gen 2 3L Auto. After much more phoning around I finally found somewhere in the UK that could supply it...with a 3 month wait.

Then during all this someone started selling snorkels on Ebay for a fraction of the price (£55.00 I paid)...From Malaysia. Unfortunately that seller has stopped selling them, but someone else has taken over at a slightly higher price (now £77.00), but still at a fraction of UK Safari Snorkel prices (usually £220+). My snorkel is now fitted and I'm very happy with it.

The model below fits Gen 2 3litre Hilux Surf's.....

BTW I have no connections to this company, I'm just trying to save people a few bob and confusion over which parts will actually fit.

Not entirely sure, I think the airbox might be in a slightly different position on the 2.4L. But don't hold me to that.

These snorkels are great kits and come with everything you need, including the strengthener for the inner arch, which is often not part of other kits. The only thing it lacked was instructions, but it's no Mensa puzzle!

On the ad it says Fibreglass as opposed to the plastic of the safari snorkels I'd be worried that after any collision it'll be in a thousand pieces.

But hey pay your money take your choice.

OK, I have just fitted one of these for Tonka. You need to add £70 postage to the price on ebay.

They are fiberglass, so don't lean on them to much, or push trees, thick branches, they will crack and be useless.
The template is OK, the big hole is hard to drill square as its at an angle, and hard to find the center, but not really a big deal. (I used a Safari template, as it has the center of the big hole marked, not just the outline) and dosn't mark the top bracket holes, but again this isn't hard ot work out.
There are no screws/inserts, etc for the top bracket into the A pillar
There is no hose to connect the snorkel to the airbox, but I found Roughtrax's 3.0 silicone intake replacement hose is perfect with a little trimming. Slightly tight on the snorkel end, but went on with some KY lube.
Carefull how you tighten all the bolts up, the inserts creak alarmingly as you snug them up, it wouldn't take much to spin them out, also there is no rubber liner like the Safari one have between the wing and the snorkel, so not a tight fit to wing, and may rub/chaff paintwork.
You also don't get the re-enforcing collar for the inner wing after you've drilled the big hole through it.

All the above isn't a downer on the snorkel, its far cheaper than TJM/Safari snorkel, but the above is why. Just so you know.

Also, its such a blatent copy of a Safari snorkel the Safari logo is still on the outside, so is the equivelent of going out on the town with a £5 fake Rolex, but if you can live with that then fine too.

Personally, I'd save for the Safari one, but only for long term durability, and at the end of the day is a blatent fake Safari snorkel. But you will get two of these for the price of one Safari.

Its slightly more hassle to fit, but not enough to charge any more for fitting.

We have a Tonka and Mrs Tonka already, Gav and Debs (since 2005! They are old skool members.. ) so you've been beaten to it.

(he's military and been on a few Afgan tours and others, so don't send him mean PM's to try and get the name off him. )

When ever I tell Linda you're popping up she thinks I mean Gav...

You need to PM Koi for user name changes, he'll sort you out.

I think I got lucky with mine, as it's defo plastic, the kit came with all the nuts, bolts, hoses, etc.

States clearly on the link you posted that there was no hose or complete connections. Not having a go just pointing it out..plus it did not stop me buying one.
