Another oil change question

    Another oil change question

    I have searched this and other sites and keep coming up with differing answers regarding oil capacity when you do a change. I have read anywhere from 5.3 to 7.8 liters of oil with a filter change. I downloaded a 94 Surf Manual and it says 5.3. I downloaded the 1KZ-TE shop manual and it says 7.6. What do most members here run? I am thinking I might just fill it until my dip stick says full, then turn her over and top it up on the stick. Only problem with this would be if it's not the proper dip stick. Sure would hate to starve her for oil. Thanks for the help again.

    Its normally about 6-7 litres.Once you have put in 6l then just keep topping up and checking the level.Mine usually takes about 6.5l

      Same as above but in regards to the initial post Daft question maybe but why would you top up the engine with oil after running if it was full from cold? Just wondered as i was always though that all fluid readings should be taken from cold (well maybe not the transmission fluid), as after the engine is warmed up it disperses to all the places its supposed to go and you would just end up overfilling, and perhaps damaging some of the seals.

        I think its to take into account the fact that presuming you are changing the oil filter that once refilled starting the car will get thr oil into the filter and any other nooks and crannies then allow to cool and test the level.

        Its how I do it anyway

            My Haynes Manual (Toyota Hi-Lux and 4Runner - Diesel) 1979 thru' 1996 says:
            "Engine oil (with filter change)
            L, 1988 and earlier 2L engines = 5.8Litres
            Later 2L and 3L engines = 6.0Litres
            *all capacities approximate. Add as necessary to bring appropriate level..."

              I done an Oil and Filter and needed to buy 6 litres of oil.

                oil capacity

                On hol in Scotland, I recently checked mine after not running truck for a few days and it was 5 or 6 mill. down on the dipstick, I thought it was strange to be low, as I always keep her topped up. (I thought maybe dragging the caravan to Kintyre had used some). Ran her for ten mins, stopped the engine, left it ten mins, oil was spot on!! Maybe thats the way, heyhey!!
                Mine always takes 6.8 to 7 ltr's, of Millers finest synthetic (XFD) It's due again actually. Grassington next week, on the trail of the Black Sheep, ( Masham beer before anybody say's 'owt!!)

                    Great link, thanks for posting.

                    Typically, I've only just done my oil change (last weekend) but for the next one, I will give it a flush.
                    I've always been anti the stuff before but I will definately give it a try now.

                      mine takes about 7.5 ltrs and i always do a flush before the change.

                        flush is fine, its the injector cleaner (destroyer) that is the dodgy stuff.

                        and mine takes 7.5 and i always flush.

                        try TPS for oil, £8 for 5 litres.

                          Guys i am in need of some of your wisdom... iv just done an oil change and whilst i was removing the oil filter i heard a little crack..... upon further inspection it appears to be a small rubber hose attached to what looks like a vacuum pump assembly..... can any of you legends advise please?
